The impact of trauma and stress in Marginalized Communities.
Understanding that human beings are complex, and that part of healing means feeling safe and supported first in order to begin the healing process with courage and compassion.
Marginalized communities are communities that are deeply affected by economic instability, poverty, institutionalized racism and oppression, and violence.
Lacking the resources and support, people from these communities are vulnerable to being exposed to traumatic events (crime and violence) and traumatic circumstances (high rates of incarceration, gang activity, interpersonal conflict, unemployment) without resources to support them.
These communities often lack access to healthy food, good healthcare, legal resources, political power, education, basic safety and respect. Despite this lack of access, these groups often develop strong inter-community resources to deal with their circumstances. Some of the most innovative solutions and movements grow from the communities most directly affected by injustice. Other groups that can be vulnerable to combinations of trauma exposure and lack of resources are people with disabilities, neurodiversity, immigrants, and undocumented people.
Sunshine Cercle is committed to making this work accessible to all through your loving support. Let’s create a safer space to be fully engaged in. The intention is not to give a seat at someone’s table, but rather to build something more beautiful than a table. To be able to be human together. To be seen, heard, and supported, to create ripples that travel wider than you can imagine.
Let’s Give to Give!

2023 GIVE TO GIVE PROJECT *
2023 GIVE TO GIVE PROJECT *
In 2022 the “Moving for Connection & Social Justice” project raised enough to initiate KYOKAN FOUNDATION in India’s Kasba Ballygunge slums in South Kolkata, helping 100 kids in socio-emotional learning and addressing resilience through somatic practices including movement, yoga, storytelling and art. In 2023 we continued as a bigger community to support these kids and their families. A big thank you to those who joined us!
Addressing Resilience and Socio-Emotional learning
Kyokan Foundation’s vision is a world where children and families are able to build on their strengths, express their emotions, and become resilient through a journey of socio-emotional learning and transformational arts.
The Give to Give Project “Moving for Connect & Social Justice” supports the foundation’s mission to foster & create an inclusive space of co-hearting and sharing, with learning opportunities by:
Facilitating mental health and socio-emotional oriented learning spaces
Advocating for trauma-informed learning spaces for building awareness
Encouraging trauma-informed approaches through movement, storytelling, music and art
Transforming a new generation of compassionate learners
HOW WILL THE DONATIONS HELP KYOKAN FOUNDATION?
The project proposes to cater to the educational and mental health of 100 children from 3-16 years of age, residing near and around Kasba slum in India, to ensure their holistic development through a trauma-informed learning space.
The proposed project aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal #4— ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all.
“Movement helps us anchor more deeply in connection.”
